If I were to change anything in the movie, I guess it would be the fact that the main character didn't have anyone at all to be with him during his problems. It felt like it was him and his books against the world. And I believe that any person in this world should have someone that they can lean on whenever they need it. If we look at the movies nowadays, we can see that there is always the "sidekick" or the supporting actor/actress of the main character. And I guess I want to adapt that to the movie.
Another thing is the sad ending. I have always hated tragedies, so I'd want to change the film's ending. I mean, why can't he have his happy ending? All his life (or at least, in the film), he has always been following others, not being able to freely do whatever he wants to do. He didn't have anyone that can stand by his side. So for me, he deserves a happy ending. Especially because he's all alone, why can't we just give him the freedom to read books? Or maybe, why did everyone die? Maybe, they could have just hurt themselves and then because of that happening, they will change the way they treat the main character because he's the one who saved them.
Lastly, I'd want to change the emotions of the film. It was so superficial. There wasn't even a change in attitude, or a deeper internalizing of feelings. Each character acted straightforwardly. I mean, why can't the wife understand him and just help him nicely to overcome his "addiction" to books? There are so many ways to make the film more interesting, but I guess it was made that way so that we can learn how to see things for ourselves. Or maybe so that we can be able to appreciate the people around us who accept us for who we are, no matter how stubborn we are. So maybe, there are reasons why they made the film so simple, yet so meaningful.
