I have already read the Hunger Games series and watched the first movie which is entitled The Hunger Games as well. The truth is that I never really liked the book so watching the movie doesn't really change anything since it was worse for me. But anyway, I still watched it because I can't really judge anything that I haven't seen or read. And after watching, I feel bad. It felt that something lacked but some parts satisfied the parts that I wasn't able to visualize in the movie.
As I was watching and researching a little bit about the movie, I found it under the genres "Adventure, Action and Sci-Fi". The first question to accomplish is that we must determine whether this movie is really a sci-fi or not. My definition of a sci-fi movie is that it is a movie that shows or contains gadgets or technology that our time hasn't discovered or fully developed yet. And in this movie, I have quite some technologies that I want very much to be real now in the world. First is the hologram videos and video calls. Next is the fact that they have already developed a functional force field. And lastly is that the fact that they have very high-tech buildings and security.
Another thing that I noticed in this movie is that somehow, I can see this as possible future of our world. WHY? Simple. It's because like I said, the technological work is already advance but it's not only that. It is also because I see that their resources is already so scarce and that they have already wasted so much from their environment that it's very expensive to have animal meat for a meal. Other than this, even though we are currently in the most peaceful era the world has ever had, that doesn't mean that there won't be another Hitler or another selfish person who'll aim to conquer and rule the whole world. And when that happens, I think it would be harder to stop than before.
And through this movie, we ask ourselves "If they have those kinds of technology already, why do they have to participate in that stupid hunger games?". In the book, it was said that it was to avoid the 12 districts from revolting against the Capitol like the District 13. We get this part, but still "Why can't they just work together?". I believe that this is because science, technology and their society didn't work well enough. There's a huge possibility that the advancements in their technology is something that they developed and worked hard so on for the purpose of conquering Panem. Or may also be that they did this after they had conquered everyone to keep everyone to feel fear. Society simply wasn't able to work well with their science and technological developments were made for the wrong purpose.
This is basically what I felt while and after reading and watching the movie adaptation as well. I just truly hope that what I said won't come true. I believe that our world will develop and flourish to be something great not like Panem.
