Make Believe to Semi-reality

Just this Sunday and yesterday, I was able to watch Hunger Games: Catching Fire in the cinema. It was a very heart-pounding movie with stress related scenes. It gave me “goosebumps” bringing to my mind moral issues, fears, anxieties, and man’s struggle to survive. Actually, it looks as if this story is Science Fiction, having all elements set in the future. There are televisions, cameras, weapons, satellites, trains and buildings which we actually see right now. No new technology is actually introduced except the fact that there is a game dome where everything can be controlled. I believe that this movie is not a Science-Fiction. It may be a make believe type of film, but with technology slowly upgrading and reaching new heights we can definitely feel that it might be possible. It can also be possible that multimedia can be controlled and owned by corrupt elites and politicians and break the barriers on what is public and what is private.
This film can be a commentary of the past, present, and modern technology. The technology from the past still seem to be of importance like bows and arrows, axes, knives and so much more especially during the Hunger Games. The technology of the present like televisions and cameras are also seen to help in making communication much easier however this movie comments that responsible use of these is very critical especially about exposing one’s private life. Modern technology in weapons are also taken into consideration which can be very helpful or can be very harmful to people. I am afraid that with this technology, the future society will not as much be very prudent on how they will use technology. Hence, technology can actually be a means of wickedness. Technology can transform and fix people’s minds too if it is used to influence the goodness or the immorality of the person. It can also invoke fear or instant happiness but it will always be up to the people to see whether it is good or not.
Science, Technology and Society only work very well within the Capitol and all the Districts very near it. They have all the means, all the technology is working for societies benefit and high lifestyle. Sadly, Science, Technology and Society fail to be working well in some parts of the district. Some districts only have the past technology to hold to without new researches leading society to be stuck in the past. The society is made to live with those only, no further improvement. However, they find ways to still survive and use it well for their security, a good thing to keep in mind.
This gives us a message of hope, that we can still have the will to overcome limitations and struggles from different environments and from people who make life difficult. The human mind is capable to think of ways to survive any battle and outsmart all odds. However, it will always be up to anyone to use technology in a moral, responsible and just way.
